Future Citizens

Growing confident, kind and capable young citizens of the future

At Woodfield, personal development is not an extra — it is at the heart of everything we do. We believe children thrive when they feel safe, valued and inspired, and when they are given rich opportunities to explore who they are and who they can become.

We are changing the way we develop children’s experiences and strengthen character ready for later life.  The Future Citizens Programmeprovides every pupil with the knowledge, character, confidence, andopportunitiesthey need to thrive — and invites pupils and families to take full advantage of them.

A school where children belong.

We work hard to ensure that every pupil feels they belong at Woodfield. Children learn how to:

  • Build positive relationships
  • Show respect for others
  • Understand differences and celebrate diversity
  • Keep themselves safe, healthy and happy — online and offline

Through PSHE, assemblies, tutor time, planned trips, enrichment activities and daily routines, pupils learn about friendships, wellbeing, emotions and responsible choices in a calm, ageappropriate way. Strong pastoral care, trusted adults and clear expectations help children feel secure and confident to be themselves.

Building character for life

At Woodfield, we help children develop key life skills such as:

  • Resilience and perseverance
  • Kindness and compassion
  • Responsibility and independence
  • Confidence to speak, perform and lead

Children are encouraged to try new things, take positive risks, learn from setbacks and be proud of their achievements. Effort, growth and contribution are celebrated just as much as success.

13 Before 13 Award — unforgettable experiences for every child (From Aut 2026)

As our children move through the school every Woodfield pupil is entitled to take part in 13 powerful experiences before the age of 13.

These include:

  • Residential and outdoor learning adventures
  • Theatre trips, museums and cultural visits
  • Performances, presentations and showcases
  • Clubs in sport, the arts, STEM and creativity
  • Leadership roles and community projects
  • Inspirational visitors and workshops
  • Trips beyond the local area, including cities and landmarks

These experiences build memories, skills and confidence — and ensure no child misses out, whatever their background. Each achievement is celebrated and valued, helping children see themselves as capable, adventurous learners. Each pupil will have a 13 before 13 passport and collect stamps as they meet milestones building up to bronze, silver and gold awards.

Learning beyond the classroom.

We offer a wide range of clubs, trips and enrichment opportunities across all year groups. Children can explore:

  • A fully enclosed and resourced forest school operating daily.
  • Sport and physical activity
  • Music, drama and the arts
  • STEM challenges and creative problem-solving
  • Teamwork, leadership and responsibility

Participation is actively encouraged and supported so that every child can take part, not just the confident few. We remove barriers wherever possible, including financial, emotional or practical challenges.

A promise to families

  • We believe personal development should be inclusive by design. That means:
  • All children are entitled to the same opportunities
  • Additional support is provided where needed
  • Participation is carefully monitored
  • No child is overlooked or left behind

We work in partnership with families to support children’s confidence, wellbeing and aspirations — ensuring they leave Woodfield not only academically ready, but happy, capable and proud of who they are.
