For Parents of KS2 Pupils

At Woodfield Academy, careers education begins by helping children understand themselves, their interests and the wider world around them. At this stage, our focus is not on choosing a job, but on building confidence, curiosity and aspiration.

Through a range of engaging activities, pupils begin to learn that there are many different jobs and pathways available to them, and that everyone has unique strengths and talents.

What does this look like?

  • Learning about different types of jobs and roles in the community
  • Talking about skills, such as teamwork, resilience and communication
  • Meeting visitors and hearing about reallife experiences of work
  • Developing confidence, independence and positive attitudes to learning

Why is this important?

Careers learning at a young age helps children to:

  • Believe in themselves and their potential
  • Recognise what they enjoy and what they are good at
  • Develop important life and learning skills
  • Begin to imagine positive futures for themselves

Our aim is to give children a strong foundation, so they are ready to explore future opportunities as they grow.

For Parents of KS3 Pupils

As pupils grow older, our careers curriculum helps them develop a clearer understanding of future pathways, including education, training and employment options.

We support pupils to reflect on their skills, strengths and interests, while widening their knowledge of the world of work and what is possible for them beyond Woodfield Academy.

What will pupils experience?

  • Structured careers learning from Year 7 onwards
  • Encounters with employers, role models and further education providers
  • Careers assemblies, events and projectbased learning
  • Guidance linked to future pathways and subject choices
  • Support in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks and The Baker Clause

Why is this important?

Our careers programme helps pupils to:

  • Make informed decisions about their next steps
  • Develop employability and “soft” skills valued by employers
  • Build resilience, independence and confidence
  • Understand the importance of wellbeing, ambition and commitment

The impact

By the time pupils move on from Woodfield Academy, they are better prepared to:

  • Transition successfully to secondary school and beyond
  • Explore a range of realistic and aspirational options
  • Feel motivated, valued and ready to contribute positively to society
  • Further Guidance
