Redditch 1964 – The Start of Something Big

Year 7 pupils are going to be involved in the above oral history project, run by Jestaminute Community Theatre CIC, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project will collect the memories of people living and working in Redditch between 1960-1984. The pupils will be trained to carry out interviews to help gather these memories. This project fits in with the schools work on 10th February 2016.

1960-1984 was an important time for the town not only in terms of a significant increase in population from circa 39000 to over 74000 but a move from the larger traditional engineering industries to smaller businesses. Key industrial developments which took place in the town during that time included work on the new materials needed for Concorde by Mettis Aerospace (then High Duty Alloys). This exciting project will be taking place all around Redditch throughout the year and aims to preserve the memories of this time for future generations.

This is where you can help. We need people for the pupils to interview. So, if there is anyone in your family, or you know of a friend or neighbour who lived or worked in Redditch at this time, please could you ask if they would like to be involved and then send in their details to school?

Please note that the interviews will be recorded but will not be shared outside of school without the permission of the person interviewed.
